Microneedling accelerates the skin’s self-repair process by creating precise, microscopic injuries in the skin, which automatically trigger new collagen synthesis without causing scar formation. Unlike energy-based procedure that uses heat like Fractional Laser and IPL treatments, SkinPen Microneedling uses sterile, disposable needle cartridges that deliver multi-speed and adjustable depth penetration to allow for increased effectiveness for individual skin needs.
Who is a candidate?
SkinPen Microneedling can be used on all skin types. It’s versatile enough to be used on all parts of the body, especially when addressing acne scars, wrinkles, sun-damaged skin, lax skin, stretch marks and hyper-pigmentation.
What is the procedure?
SkinPen Microneedling has sterile needle tip containing 12 micro-needles. After applying a thin layer of topical anesthetics to the skin, the pen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until entire treatment area has been covered.
What is the downtime?
Following the treatment, a pink to reddish (sunburn) glow will be expected that may last 12-24 hours. Average repair process takes about 48-72 hours.
When will a patient see results?
A natural repair process of the skin progresses over the course of several weeks. Dermal collagen remodeling takes place over time and will continue to improve for up to 6 months to a year after the final treatment.
How many treatments are recommended?
The course of treatment is based upon individual treatment goals and the condition of the skin. Most patients receive series of 3 treatments spaced about 4 weeks apart.
Who should not receive Microneedling treatment?
Microneedling is contraindicated for patients with a history of keloid scars, sceroderma, collagen vascular disease or cardiac abnormalities, bleeding disorder or active skin infection.
